EPA Proposed
Regulations on Formaldehyde Released
The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has released a pre-publication copy
of their rule on formaldehyde emissions from composite wood products. Once
published in the Federal Register, this proposed rule will carry a 60 day
comment period.
The pre-publication proposed rule on emission standards is available here, and the pre-publication proposed rule on Third Party
Certifiers (TPCs) is available here.
In addition, EPA’s proposal covers certain laminated products – where a wood
veneer is attached to a compliant platform with a formaldehyde-based resin,
although California’s regulations exempt all laminated products. For more
information, you can view the EPA Fact Sheet sheet here.
